Captured this image a couple of weeks ago and thought I’d mess around with it. The background is a real hodgepodge of images and treatments, the branch is a layered combination of edges, paint daubs and a watercolor filter with some blending and erasing, and the bird is a layered image with a slight watercolor filter on the top layer. I think it came out “okay”, but I wish the bird had been facing the other way – into the light.

Thanks for looking, C&C more than welcome.

Nice use of textures... my only nit is the black outline of the branch near the right hand side.... eliminate that for a smoother look.

Thanks for the feedback,Luke. The line you mentioned was intentional, but it may not be as evident in the smaller image. What I was trying for was a linear transition. Here's a detail that shows the transition on the branch both left and right. Perhaps a little adjustment that enhances the lines on the left and subdues the ones on the right would be in order.

I think your suggestion is spot-on

Thanks for the feedback, Cindy. I squeezed all I could out of it I think, but I agree with your comment about lightening the face. I completely lost the eye when I first processed it and have already reworked it as much as I thought I could get away with - that's one reason I wish the bird had been facing the other way - better light.
