Grytviken was the largest of the land-based whale processing stations, operating from 1905-1964. Perhaps as many as 2 million great whales - a mind-numbing number - were "processed" through Grytviken. It's mostly rusting metal now, although there is a very nice museum and the harbor is the seasonal administrative center for South Georgia Island.
The King Penguin seemed to me to be hanging his head; my head was certainly hanging. There's a palpable sense of loss and misery to the place.
Full frame. Lightened slightly and selectively sharpened.
C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Happy Holidays too!

This photo illustrates what we have done to our planet. A breathtaking bird in a sea of rusting, toxic trash. The penguin appears depressed by the situation.
