Spheres Of Ice

More ice textures for you guys.
I can't decide whether or not I want to keep it or toss it. I'm trying to develop an eye for texture photography and want to know how this works for you.

Anyway, this was shot at the base of a waterfall where the sprinkles were falling on the rocks. It was actually very neat to see in person. I got just a small handful of images before I realized that I had small icicles on my camera and coat. The tripod was also covered in ice and couldn't make any adjustments to it after this. The color is coming from some frozen maple leaves under the ice.
Shot at Fall Hollow Falls on the Natchez Trace in Tennessee.

Thanks for any comments and critiques!

Trying to decide to keep it or not...hmmm, if you don't want it send it my way with a copyright transfer  This is a pretty interesting image. Not of a type I have ever seen before. I especially like how the spheres are layered on top of each other.

Rick,

I would call this one a keeper. I like the background although I could not have guessed it was maple leaves. I also like envisioning icicles on a photographer, camera, and tripod by a waterfall.

Well, I, for one, think this is wonderful! It is very special to be able to go out in nature and find patterns, and you have done it here with a lovely color pallette. The abstraction is wonderful - I would not know what this is unless you had said so. You could be more obscure about your title/description and leave us wondering  I would be proudl to have this in my portfolio! I cannot think of anything to suggest here.

It's not a keeper. Just send me the copyright transfer instead of Youssef.

Either way, I'd say you are definetely on your way to developing an eye for texture photos.

Thanks guys! :wavey:

I have been drawing a blank with titles lately. It took me a few minutes of just staring and thinking just to come up with this corny title.
Any suggestions?

You can't decide to keep it, or toss it... Really?
Nice lustre on the ice balls, and wonderful abstract. maybe could use a tad more dof. I learned that from the comments on my recent ice abstract!

I like it Rick. It has texture but still has a smoothness about it, if that makes any sense. Good eye and well executed.

Keep it. It's a fascinating abstract. On the laptop is seems a bit over-exposed, bu that could me my screen tilt. Last image looked right, thought it's always a bit tough to know on this computer. It's the type of image that lends itself to all types of interpretation, so if it doesn't grow on you, find a rendition that does. It's all up to you.

Please, please, do not even think of tossing this image, Rick. It's fantastic. The pattern of what I used to call popcorn ice is superb, and your processing has really brought out the wonderful luminance and contrast. The warm colors showing through the ice add a whole new dimension. Love it.

Hey, thanks for checking out my ice abstract. Let me clarify why I made the comment. It looks like this might be a little pile of ice balls. The area of the upper right looks like it might be a little closer/ further from the lens, and is not quite as sharply in focus as the left area to my eye. It's really a minot observation, and not really a nit. I have soft corners in mine, not sure why that happened, cause' it's a flat surface. Although, not all the air bubbles are at the same level suspended under the surface.

Wicked cool Rick. I like the hint of red coming through, it adds a a lot of depth to the photo. The textures are awesome, like I could reach out and touch them. It has a nice 3D quality to it also. Cheers

Stan- Brighter highlitghts wouldn't be a terrible idea. I think it might add a little more pop to it. I guess I just gotta be careful not to blow it way out. Some of the highlights are pretty close to being blown as is. Thanks!
