This is a long exposure of the lava plume from the ocean entry at Kilauea. When the wind is blowing out to sea, you can stand on the lava tube and bask in awe at the red and orange glow that rises from the intense coloring of the plume.

Another title than ran through my mind - "The Beginning".

Thanks for the C&C's!

Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm, ISO 100, f/5.6, 4 sec.

Love the graphic nature of this, really does have an end/beginning feel to it.

Nice abstract, the intense contrast between the black and reds is really powerful. Another great lava image, Justin.

I love your recent images form Hawaii and this is no exception. It feels primal and mysterious.

Definately looks apocolyptic! The extreme color, and light contrast is awesome!

I'm really surprised this didn't get more of a reaction from folks. That's not a criticism of other viewers so much as a way of conveying my own basic impression of this shot, which I think is fabulous! I like "The Beginning" rather than the current title . . .

Jeepers. I just put my hands near the monitor and could feel the heat. This is a bit eerie as well as dramatic.
