Attractive setting and beautiful bull with cows. I do wish for a bit more separation of the bull from the cows behind, their outlines merge a bit. I guess I am always after that "idealized" photo of perfectly placed subjects, it so rarely happens in reality - a little like that hole in one. The bull's pose is very cool. A solid photo! :toast:

A good behavioral image Richard. I do echo Gary's comments here about the need for separation, but at that short FL and aperture with that little distance between the bull and the cows that was merely impossible (even with a wider aperture). I do like the fact that even with that many individuals in the frame you did not cut a single one in half at the edge of the frame. I am curious about the -1 dialed in exposure comp. This looks like a scene and light that the camera metering should get more or less right.

The reason this image had the -1 exposure comp. This was shot in the middle of the afternoon and the light was fairly harsh. I was very confident that I could get good exposure, so I bracketed most of my shots. This one turned out to be one that I could work with and get what I felt was a good exposure in the end.

Dandy bull, decent light. Nits already mentioned.

Good job getting all the elk in focus and handling the bright light, good detail in the larger image, way to go.

I like the placement of the elk in the FG grasses with reference to the BG trees. Great behavior to observe, I find it hard to concentrate on taking pics rather than watching the show!
