Juvi Tricolor Lurking

I was out yesterday morning at Bayou Sauvage NWR, and was please to see a lot of bird activity. There were a number of Great Egrets, White Ibis, a few Tricolors and a large number of duck and Coots. Conditions were cloudy most of the time, and this juvenile flew in and got at very close range. I had the 2X on, but the bird was tolerant enough to hang around while I switched to the 1.4X. I initally wasn't too keen about the higher angle on the bird, but the bank was just bihind the bird, so the higher angle allowed for a crop to get a bit cleaner shot. And I particularly liked the crouching pose and the reflection. Only wish that I would have been able to stop down a bit, but 1/200th is about my lower limit for this glass combination.

Olympus E-3 ZD300 F2.8 +EC14 Wimberley I, ISO 400 1/200 f4 0.0EV, cropped about 70% to 4x5 format.

I like the colors in this bird, but what is really appealing about the image is the crouched position of the subject coupled with the elongated reflection.

Nice job.

Interesting in a good way. The reflection has almost become the subject. Cool.

I like this Bill. Being able to see more bird in the reflection than in reality is kind of cool.

Yeah, the angle really does make the reflection a better pose. Maybe if you turned it over....

Nice shot!

Really unusual point of view makes this image a standout for me, Bill. The colors and detail in the plumage are wonderful.
