The MilkyWay

As I walked thru a field one very cold early morn last week, I tried using the flash on a couple of old milkweed pods--just trying to find something unique. When I got home, the results were disappointing. So I went back yesterday, and found the exact same pods and tried again, this time getting lower and setting the plant against the BG sky and landscape.

I hope this is appropriate posting here, debated on putting it in ESS. I was pleased with this result. H2, ISO-80, 1/250th, f-4.0, flash fired in macro setting. Cropping/adjustments in Elements 7. Thank for any C&C, larger posted!

It's very appropriate here Bill. Well seen, captured and presented. I admire the creativity. An interesting and very appealing image for my tastes. I also like the mood of it.

The larger version really shows the detail. This is what I love about flower photography...the subjects are so lovely, yet unique, and very often bizarre!

Bill: Great subject and a fine capture. I like this as posted but also like it with the land forms cropped out leaving the seed pod isolated against the sky. A vertical comp of just the seed pod against the sky would probably have been my first inclination. Kudos on your flash management. Very well done. >=))>

Very creative, Bill. I like what you have done here with this scene. The flash is very natural looking and I like your POV. My only suggestion would be to crop about half of the ground behind the milkweed. That would still keep it grounded and you would still have the hills in the BG. Just a suggestion of course.

Thanks folks, I did think about that crop and may post it. The curvature of the plant I liked, even though it's been done 10,000 million times.

An interesting POV Bill. The pod is well exposed with the flash. Like the BG sky and landscape as well.

Thank you also Gary and Krunal. I have one more different version, more along the lines of what Bill F. suggested that I'll probably post. Appreciate you liking my experimentation--I NEVER use a flash, well almost never.
