The Mountain Gods

by Karsten Wrobel

Gallery: LandscapePosted December 5, 2010296 views21 comments
This shot was taken from India looking west into Nepal and shows sunrise over the mountain range around Khangchendzonga, the world’s 3rd highest mountain.
It was the only view I got of the mountains during 6 days of trekking, but it did compensate for those long spells when visibility was limited to trees in the fog…

Use of GND filters, double-processed from same RAW file.

Thanks in advance for any critique or comments.

Wonderful view and layers here on display. Don't know how much of that halo on the lower ridge is natural/grad filter/processing but I might tone it down a little. It does make the lower layer stand out nicely though.

Wow...I love the layers and contrasting colors in the scene. It's nice that the fog doesn't intersect with the snow capping on the mountains. :toast:

Fantastic scenery, Karsten! I really like the point of view here as you seem to be pretty high up. Love the layering too.

This is a very familiar view for me Karsten. I am sad that you did not get much of clear view during your stay there. Wonderful light

Stellar Karsten,

What wonderful conditions up there. It must have been a joy shooting this one.
Great color and the midrange clouds are fantastic.

Well done

It may have been the only view you got of the mountains but it sure is a nice one Karsten.

That's an incredible view. The clouds with different light make for quite a show. I'm with Marc that the halo around the lower ridge is a bit obvious.

Karsten,

Wow, you went to Sikkim! Awesome shot from there- beautiful alpenglow and I love the layering of the ridges. Which trek did you do? Was this from the Goecha la trek? It's always great to see where you are traveling to! Beautiful image as always!

BTW: You have some gorgeous images from Indonesia on your site. You seem to have captured the magic there perefcetly.

Marc and Tony, thanks for pointing out what looks like a halo, I will have to rework that...

Arnab, I had a look at your website - so this is where you spent your childhood? Wonderful people we met there on our trip.

Mike, we trekked the Singalila ridge. Easier and shorter than Goeche La - we were in India for a wedding and only had so much time...
BTW your recent travels have made me aware of a region I was completely ignorant of, looking forward to your travel journal...
