This was taken Dec. 1st, at Castle Mountain along the Bow River in Banff Alberta, The mountain only had good light on it for a couple minutes just long enough for me to capture it.

Simon: This was one of my favorite spots when we visited in the summer of 2009. Of course there wasn't quite this much snow then  . Beautiful capture of the moment. >=))>

Nice light and beautiful scene. I would not mind a little more room at the top if you have it. I find it a touch cramped. Love the detail in the water.

Beautiful. There's just enough sun to make this magical.

Great capture of that mountain. Very well composed, everything works well together, from near to far.

The light on the peak is fantastic, Simon! I would have liked to see a little more room on the top.

Lovely shot of Castle. Makes me want to head out to the mountains tomorrow...
I'll echo the comments regarding more room up top, plus it also looks like a dust spot in the water near the right edge that'd be worth cloning out. Otherwise it looks great.

Great light on the peaks, and this is a wonderful winter scene. I like everything here, but just a little more room on top would be nice too. Beautiful image and I like this alot.

Simon, I like this photo. You have done a nice job getting the foreground as well as the background sharp and the light on the mountain is very nice. I'm sure I'm in a small minority here, however, I think you might have an equally strong image if you crop the foreground rocks and create a panorama which would put the focus on the mountain. To my eye the rocks in the river are the dominate part of the image and I really want the mountain to be dominate. Just my humble opinion. In any event a nice capture.

Simon,

Magical light indeed! These times are special even though they only last a few moments. Certainly one of the main reasons we like to have cameras with us, eh?

Larry shouldn't feel alone because I was thinking along those same lines before reading any comments. I do think this is a beautiful capture as presented, so take this comment as an alternative and not a "fix" per se. I too was thinking of cropping the water. Maybe about half, to say right above the small dark rock on the left edge of the water. You still have a nice lead-in with the river and the snow-lined shore, but the light on the mountains becomes more of the story, as it should. Just a thought. It's still a beautiful capture any way you slice it.

Beautiful light. The cool tones surrounding the glow is very nice too. There are probably multiple ways of cropping this to emphasize different aspects.

Great capture of the fleeting conditions! The upper half of the image is the most interesting to me, so I may try a pano crop as an alternative. A great image no matter how you slice it!

Gorgeous shot Simon. I do wish there was a bit more room on the top. Still a spectacular capture - looks like it must have been very cold!

The splash of light on the mountain makes this a very nice capture. It contrasts well with the rest of the scene and gives the mountain nice texture.

A beautiful image, Simon. Great leading lines and interest in the fg. The light on the mountain is superb. I agree, perhaps a little more room on top would have been nice.

Splendid light, cloud, and tree interact. The near/far focus is there, but I wish there were something more eye-arresting in the foreground to balance the majesty of the background. Lovely!
