My backyard in Northeast Florida
Leaf - PSE8 levels, contrast, sharpening
Background - I didn't want to touch the leaf, so I removed the grass background in PSE8 and replaced it with solid color fill layer
Note to Pat: In case you haven't seen my question in NPN Discussion, I asked where this should go there. You and Bill should feel completely free to move it to Photo Art if you think that's where it should be, and I will post any further in this series here or there, depending on what you do. None of the leaves will be manipulated other than the postprocessing listed for this leaf above, but the backgrounds will be replaced as above (well, depending on what people say in response to my question below). :)
Question: Is a black background good for fall leaf images, or is it common and boring? I tried dark green but didn't like it as much.
Feedback on that and anything else would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

8 commentsYou got that frosty leaf here in sunny Florida? Brrrr. It's cold here is swfl, but we don't expect frost.
I like your rendition. That black background I'm sure is better than the grass you found the leaf on. You did a fine job separating the leaf. I'm thinking maybe some sort of dark leafy-ish mottled background might work better that black. You can photograph something and make it way out of focus for use as a background for cases like this.
Please see me comment on gallery classification in the NPN Discussion forum on your thread.

A very beautiful image nicely set off by the black bg. Well done.
