A fish's worst nightmare

This bird was making a dive on a fish and pulled up about 2/3rds of the way down. We have been going though a real dry summer and fall and the water is so low in the pond the bird was fishing that the ospreys fishing it are swooping in to snatch fish rather than plunging into the water. I was in full camo hiding in the cattails as this bird came down right at me. One thing I have found with the Mk4 vs the 7D is the AI Servo AF is faster and can keep up with fast birds coming right at the camera. 7D had more problems keeping up.

I like the position of the bird, the light, and the nice eye contact for a head-on shot. Please view larger version. Thanks.

Very unusual position - quite an eye-catcher.

Love how it appears he/she is dive bombing right at us. I wouldn't want to be the fish. Love the feet.

Your best Osprey flight sans fish shot... I like the unique view and how it shows off all of the birds features

I agree with Richard, the very unusual wing position does it for me too..
Nice head turn, with that yellow eye standing nicely as well :toast:

Ron, this is just wonderful and I have nary a nit with the larger image. Never seen an Osprey flight shot quite like it actually. What I like most here is the sort of convoluted flight posture coming at us that still got a great look at that eye. I like the hanging feet in shadow and think your comp is perfect with the bird going slightly to our left but looking slightly right and looking and flying down. It does look to me like you missed a spot in your mask between the toes of the left foot in the 720 but you've apparently corrected it in the larger photo where it really matters. Top drawer Osprey flight shot!

Incredible shot, Ron. It's one thing to obtain a flight shot; it's quite another to obtain a diving shot! Great sharpness and colors too. Nice to know your impression of the Mk 4 vs the 7D. I'm not missing my 7D either. :toast: :toast:
