Nova Ice Lace

Please view large for a much better view...

I shot this about a couple of weeks ago. I have been meaning to shoot this location for quite some time. It`s an incredible place... Skoddebergvannet lake has so many things to offer. Rocks popping up everywhere and the compositional options are endless. The mountain, Novatinden, is perhaps the most photogenic mountain i know. I have some exciting plans for this mountain...

This time everything fell into place. I brought my kids for this trip. They have a thing for mountains, so i gave the oldest one a compact cam so that he could take pictures of all the differents peaks in the area. That plan was a great success. While i set up they were playing behind me so i had all the time in the world to compose.

I found these amazing iceformations hanging down from some rocks. Looked like laces... Really created the perfect foreground for this scene. The light was as good as it can get...I got a few shots that im really happy with, but this one stood out the most. Now it`s hanging on my own wall...thats how much i liked this one. It`s amazing to view all the details in the large print. Every little tree on that mountain...

Have a wonderful day! And thanks for the massive response to my last one...

Spectacular scene, Arild! Exposure and colors look perfect. That foreground ice is especially interesting. My only nit is that the balance for me is weighted towards the left side. The mountain is cool, but since there is not much light on it, most of my attention is drawn towards the warm colors on the opposite side. For an encore, maybe you could climb up that icy peak and shoot the lake from way up high!

Great shot Arild. Your strategy to manage your kid work very well here. I like the ice lace which your choose for the foreground and the time of day for this one also emphasize the beauty of this area. Thank you for sharing.

This is a beautiful image Arild! I really like the beads of ice they set the foreground off real nice, and the line between the rocks helps lead the eye into the background, it is a little warm on the left, but personally in this image I find that compelling.
Some of my best memories are when my sons were young and spent more time in the field with me. Those are special times; I hope you find joy in every minute.

Stunning image Arild. A very unique and unusual capture. I have to admit - having the horizion line more than 50% of the way up on a lake shot like this takes some time getting used to (for me). This really is outstanding. :toast: :toast:

I really like the edge light on the mountain peaks, it makes them sharp and defined. The FG is quite interesting as well. :toast:

Magnificent image Arild! Interesting perspective and foreground elements but even better is the quality of light throughout.

This is so fantastic! But having seen this as a huge print, this little jpeg isn't the same any more. :-) A shot like this deserves the treatment you've already given it...albeit a little cleaning of the frame would've done nicely.

A spectacular scene, Arild.I like the contrast and deep blacks that strongly define the fg elements The warm, radiating light from behind the mountain is beautiful and compliments the blues in the image very well. I see the faces in the fg ice formations, which offer lots of interest and fascination. Beautiful processing with this one. I would have liked to have seen the huge print that Hakon speaks of! Excellent image!

I can see why this one is on your wall already. It's spectacular! The light on the left side is beautiful and strong. I see some color creeping around under the mountain and across the top of the rock on the right. Perhaps bringing those small areas up a little bit would serve to "underscore" the mountain. I think hat would put this most excellent image WAY over the top. This is only a thought, though, and not a nit, because there is enough snow on the mountain to get the viewer to notice it.

Arild,

What a fantastic follow up to your previous post. Of course it will be hard to get a repeat performance on comments, but this image should stand beautifully on it's own. And this is quite spectacular, IMHO. What makes this one so great is the perspective/viewpoint that brings the foreground rocks and ice, right in to your living room, so to speak. Yet the near/far composition with the gorgeous light and mountains in the background are working in concert with the foreground. I just think this is a visual treat. It's also a visual mystery to me because it appears that the foreground rock/ice is at or below the surface of the lake giving the impression that you and your camera are below water level. Weird.

I love this image and can understand why it's now hanging on your wall. Congrats! :toast:

Very unique, for sure. Amazing how that sheet of ice seems to be floating here. The warm light is a nice contrast to the cooler colors in the scene.

I'm surprised there aren't more comments for this one Arild. This is one of the better shots I've seen in awhile. There is so much going on, the eye can wander and appreciate throughout, but it all ties together nicely. I love the flow from lrc to ulc, and the cold detail is marvelous.
