Canon 1D Mark 4 With EF 500mm f4 and 1.4 X tc
1/2500 sec, F 7.1, ISO 400

Cropped to about 75% of the original for composition.. Took this along with others this morning. I was very happy to capture the classic flap in place for a duck. They are very entertaining to observe as you photograph them.

Thanks for looking.

Great pose, MIchael. I wonder if it's possible to squeeze out more detail in those whites though?

Michael, I like the wing flap pose and the water is a great backdrop fo this bird. Sharpness looks good where it counts. Was a lower angle possible? Also, some of the whites a bit bright and lack detail. Might try and coax a bit more detail out of those areas if this were mine. Overall a nice image.

Such a beautiful bird and a great pose. Typical big water conditions that I usually see them in - but usually from too great a distance to get a decent shot. Well done. :toast:

Great detail and pose, Michael. I like the mottled look of the wind on the water too.

Great pose Michael.Love the great view of the curved tail and the color of the water. White do appear slightly hot on my screen, I think you might be able to pull some more details out if those were brought down. The bill on this species is very interesting

Love that wing flap, tail up, perky pose Michael. I also enjoy the texture of the water and the wave trough the bird is in. I suspect that a lower angle in this rough water would have presented some serious challenges. I agree that some of the whites seem to be a bit bright and lacking detail.
