Birth of a Sunstar 1

I went out early Wednesday to beat the holiday grocery shopping traffic. As I came to the top of a mountain on my way, I was shocked to see a blood-red sky in the east on what had appeared to be a miserable morning... by the time I was able to find a side road and unobstructed view, the red had gone. But I could see a beautiful sunrise in the making.

So I stopped, froze my a** off in the wind for 20 minutes to the point my hands were numb... and got rewarded with a perfect sunstar and dramatic sky as it developed. This is Part 1. Oh, and I still beat the crowd! Happy Thanksgiving.

D-60, ISO-200, 1/500th, f-11.0.

Nice shot Bill. At time like this it pays to always have a camera with you. I like the placement of the rising sun and the photo works well as a pano. Well done.

A very expressive composition, strong and balanced, containing all the power of the upcoming day!
