Shoreline Shower

Carlsbad, California

Shot this a couple weeks ago while waiting for the tide to recede just before sunset. I probably should have composed differently to include more rocks on the bottom of the frame, but I was more drawn to the water and light, smothering the rocks. I'll probably go back and get another comp when the tide is right.

I don't know Jimmy, this looks pretty good to me. I have tried for a long time to get such a photo with the water shimmering like that mixing in with the rocks on 4x5. A lot easier said than done. I like the diagonal flow of the shimmering water and the chaotic underlying foam. Its a nice combination.

Very creative Jimmy, great use of light. The detail in the rocks are nice. I'm with you, I'd like to see more rocks. Nicely done.

This is just superb. I'm sure there must be many other possibilites in this vein but this stands on its own as an outstanding image.

Man, I love the light in this one, and really don't see anything wrong with the comp - looks pretty darn near perfect to me. Superb IMO.

A natural beauty! So 'wet' I can almost taste it.
Perfect shutter speed, and the composition looks terrific to my eye. You might want to 'lose' that bit of grass (?) in the lower left corner.
Highly original and very well captured!
Happy Thanksgiving!

You're good at this type of image, Jimmy. The sun on the water looks like liquid fire.

Having more rocks at the bottom is certainly another comp, but this looks pretty darn good to me as is, Jimmy. The light on the water is really magical and your SS choice has created some wonderful lines of motion in the water. :toast:

I think you got this one "just right." It has all the elements I think make a winning photograph: Great light; great texture in the water, nice, sharp and colorful wet rocks in the foreground. In the words of Lawrence Welk: "wunnerful, wunnerful, wunnerful."

One little minor nit -- the piece of grass or seaweed in the lower left foreground and repeated slightly to the right is just slightly distracting.

Gorgeous, Jimmy. Light and composition are superb in my book. I don't know why you feel you should have composed this any differently as this is excellent.

The streaks of light make this come alive! I could see more room on the bottom but would be more than happy with this composition.

Nice job from what looks like an awkward lighting situation. I vote for more rocks on your next trip...
