Water Main

I revisited a local stream this morning that I had posted from a couple of weeks earlier. With familiar equipment in hand today, I experimented on about a hundred yard stretch of it going from 1 second up to 30-second exposures.

And this is a more heads-on view of the main little cascade than before. D-60, ISO-100, 8 seconds, f-22.0 w/ CPL. Thanks for C&C, larger posted.

OK, in the larger version I noticed another dust bunny/water spot or two--and a bad PS fix on another!! I'll fix when I can.

An interesting low perspective you have chosen here. It brings the waterfall nicely to the viewers attention. I also like the dark trunks in the bg - they create some atmosphere for me.

Bill, I like this a lot and it's a place worth shooting more and more. The dark rocks and the moss covered woods are a wonderful sense of place. However, this shot is difficult for my eye to focus... the larger image especially so. The issue for me is too much OOF blurry white... it all blends together and doens't let the eye settle and is in stark contrast with the sharp and dark rocks. Maybe zooming out a bit would help this. Or focusing on a smaller section. For example, the water dripping off the rocks on the very right side of the image is really visually interesting to me and may make an excellent intimate scene.

Thanks for the comments folks! Luke, I might agree on the white water as it's splashing back into the creek, if that's the part you are referring to, yup I can see that, thanks. But I certainly don't look at the cascading water that way. To me, they almost look like separate strands... like a bunch of taffy pulls going on. Know what I mean?? More from here to come, wider shots, some of the RHS... as well as some from down creek looking back. Appreciate your feedback as always! :toast:

I like this one. It feels like the midtones could be brightened up just a little.

That's a great cascade, Bill! pretty nice exposure control on the whites too. This would be a great spot for some tighter intimate abstracts of the water detail too.

This looks like a beautiful place, Bill. I could see visiting here often and trying lots of different angles and light.

Thanks gentlemen, I will continue to experiment. (I'd love to get on the other side, have to figure out a direct way if there is one.)
