Great Egrets

by Wayne Willison

Found a feeding spot yesterday, where tons of egrets had gathered. They fished and non stop fought. One would seem to get jealous if another caught a fish.
Anyway the scene was both backlit and front lit, depending on where the action happened. Mish mash of extreme light situations.
This image involves two egrets, with two more, one fg and one, bg.

btw, that lens combo can tire the shoulder after an hour or so of handholding.

Interesting light and action Wayne. Must admit though that my eye finds it to be a little confusing - maybe just me...

I like the action, the light and all the flying water but it is hard for me to "read" what is going on here.

I think this is really spectacular and unique Wayne. Did you do anything in post processing to accentuate the difference in lighting? A wonderful image, congrats. :toast:

A very unique image Wayne. The only nit I really have is that I cannot really tell what birds are what in the shot except for the lit up individual. Tough lighting and I think you made the most of it.

Thanks for the interest.
There was so much going on in this series of shots and such extremes in lighting, that in this image I darkened the whole thing, yet the main subject(actually three wings and one head and neck) maintained most of its brightness. I simply painted those areas back a bit.
With this treatment I found value in the image's parts, which when combined with the darker forms seemed to accentuate the action.

I like it something different really makes you look into the image to find the birds in this sort of light, and I love the one that is lit up

A very cool capture, Wayne. The contrasting bird and background make for a really unique image.

Just love it. The light, the action, the wings, the water. I don't think you have to "know" what's going on to appreciate the action here. Love that dark background.
