Nestled

Thanks for the feed back on my last post. I am still trying to correct the color.

The feedback has helped in working up the wider view of the same tree. Here you can see it in its environment. ON the banks of the Merced nestled in among the conifers and glowing in the warm light reflected off some thin clouds overhead near the time of sunset. I can just smell the forest again while looking at this photo. I love the forest.

4x5, 150mm, f22 10 sec, Fuji Provia 100F.

Your thoughts much appreciated.

P.S. I wanted to include a larger version but the compression required to meet the posting criteria was too damaging. I guess you'll just have to seek me out at a show and see a large print

I can smell the forest here. I like the river motion. A beautiful area. Nice work.

i suspect you nailed it. the motion is perfect. i say "i suspect" because less of the FG rocks and they'd become distractions, and even more so if there was more of them. i'm not 100% sold on them but i suspect that, given the situation, you nailed it! if you see what i mean!

I prefer this version over the previous one because of the inclusion of the river. I like the rocks in the FG, kind of framed the scene nicely IMO. Water motion is very nice.

I like the use of the foreground rocks, which frame the scene quite nicely. I might burn down the lower left rock to match the others. Quite nice, Youssef!

This is beautiful, Youssef. The color is lovely, especially in the water.

I like the foreground boulders, and I agree with Harley about burning down the far left one a bit.

Good work!

Beautiful scene, gorgeous light, the rocks provide a wonderful anchor, allows me to "wonder" into the image, well done :toast:

Classical comp and great exposure. Must be a killer on a big print.

Complex scene, but the foreground rocks sort of serve as a bit of a visual anchor. The exposure seems a bit high on the yellow leaves and very tall trunk.

Youssef,

I too like the inclusion of the rocks at the bottom. They really help define both depth and space; giving a context to the size/width of the river. Which actually, is running much higher for this time of year due to recent rains of course.

I think you've tamed the magenta nicely in this version. My personal preference might be to play with the highlights which would tone down the main trunk on the right and some of the central vegetation, but that's a minor opinion.

Overall, I love the scene. Which I better because I have these same trees just maybe 20-30 yards downstream including some of the river. I was there a week after you so the color is a little farther along too. It sure is a beautiful stretch of the river.

Another beautiful scene. Nice light and color and I like the rocks except for the one in the llc.

You have what I consider to be a unique and elegant way of composing and presenting these scenes. Your last few of these inspired me to look harder and try harder to capture one for myself than I had before. I ended up at the Pohono Bridge spot after interogating Lon, Harley, and Kyle as to where you captured one from there!
