Deep in the Forest

Deception Creek trail, Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington State. I was drawn to this scene by the light on the trees and the glacial blue color of Deception Creek.

D700, 70-200 @ 80, tripod, circ.pol.; f 16, 0.5, ISO 400.

Taken in September when autumn color was just beginning. Thanks for viewing and for your thoughts.

I like it. The creek provides a base for the strong verticals of the trees.

Summer is a long time now up here. Isn't it Catherine? A nice scene for the way it really is department. I like the placement of the trees. Not always easy to do with so many "volunteers".

I really like these scenes Catherine. Nice composition as mentioned and I like how you didn't bring up the shadows too much, keeping it real. Great speed on the water. :toast:

Really nice comp, light, and processing. I think I might have moved the stick in the foreground, but that's a personal preference thing.

Overall, this is real nice--i especially love the forest detail. I'm a bit ambivalent about the stream--it has such nice flow that i kind of wish there was more of it in the frame, so it led somehwere rather than being bounded by the sides. I guess another way of putting that is that the top is defintiely vertical comp material--but the bottom screams landscape to me. :wavey:

Beautiful image! Those little evergreens grouped around the bases of the big trees(Cedar) are very nice. Great color in the water too!

Very nice Catherine! This has some really interesting light. The image is a bit on the cool side, but that works well. Well arranged and composed!

The stick in foreground catches my eye a bit too much, otherwise it's great! Very well composed and pleasant photo to look at.

Beautiful forest scene. I like the hints of turquoise in the creek. Wondering if a small crop from the bottom (to just above the fallen branch) will strengthen the composition a bit.

I almost can't get enough of shots like this . . . the strong vertical lines of the trees receding into the background, a pleasant stream right up front. Very nicely done. Like a couple of others I want to make that branch disappear. I'm not sure if a crop (perhaps with a bit of cloning on the far LHS so you don't have to crop too much) is necessary, but it is certainly something to consider.

Catherine,

I really like the soft lighting and silvery tones of the tree trunks. The composition is excellent and I think you have a nice balance between stream and forest. I too like the hint of glacial blue in the water. Nice job.

I really like this, Catherine. The deep shadows of the forest and cool blues of the water and rocks look very natural and the comp is perfect.
