Birch Reflections

by Kah Kit Yoong

Gallery: LandscapePosted November 17, 2010236 views16 comments
Perthshire, SCOTLAND

Stripped birches at Loch Tay. The purples reflected from the hills were so intense I've desaturated them. Shot in the first couple of days of my Scotland trip, it was the first that I put into my favourites basket.

Another one that should be viewed large!

Canon 5DMkII, 105mm, 24-105mm 4L, ISO 50, f22, 2 seconds.

Kah Kit:
The colors are beautiful and reflection is great. I find the horizontal lines near the lower edge a bit distracting.

Exquisite image. The light is awesome, as are the colors and reflection. My only very minor neg is the blurred leaves in the URC.

I like the image. What hills? I just see trees and water. Looks good, though a bit different for you. Nice variety for you portfolio.

Definitely needs to be viewed large to appreciate it, and I imagine this would look even better as a print. The color palette is really pleasing here. I think I see some motion blur in the leaves on the right, which is arguably distracting in this type of image. I might suggest a crop off the bottom where the reflection changes due to the water motion.

You know I dig such scenes! Great subject matter to begin with. Colors are particularly interesting, the light is very good too. Nitpicking: The lines in the water interfere a bit with the "clean" impression the reflection creates.

I should mention that I deliberately chose a version with blurred leaves which together with the blurred water gives a dreamlike frame to the picture inside. You can't see the hills but they are reflected in the water on the right side - very purple.

This is gorgeous Kah, the detail in the larger version is excellent. I dont mind the motion blur at all. I know what you mean about having to tone down the stauration having just spent a few days up there myself.

This is beautiful, and it really does have a dreamlike feel. Your framing worked perfect for this imo, including the reflection which is really nice. I see a center oval shape with the dreamy feel all around it. Large version really helps see this. Very nice, Kah Kit.

Dreamy! Very nice scene. Not sure I like the motion blur in the urc but its not a deal-breaker. The brown leaves appear a bit too purple to me. Also, the leaves in the urc appear a tad too aqua. Just minor nit-picking though. I think someone said this was "enchanting" and I would have to agree. :toast:

I am really liking the bottom half of the image. Upper half is a tad busy - wondering if a different crop will make it stronger

This is lovely, Kah. I love the color palette and textures. I think the reflection is fine. Did you do any closeups of the tree on the left with the purples and the yellow bg? Looks like a great place to shoot for several hours. You and Winnie are really enticing me to go to Scotland

Gorgeous color and light Kah Kit. I see the effect you were going for with the blurred leaves and water and think it works well in producing an overall ethereal effect.
