Hopping Piping

Have you ever noticed that shorebirds stand on one foot and then they seem to be reluctant to put the other foot down when they want to move? This piping plover was hopping just about as fast as it could run.

Canon 1D3, 300mm f2.8, 2.0xTC
ISO 2oo, f5.6, 1/1600

I dodged a pair of wave lines on the sand that looked like miniature tire tracks.

I like what you've captured here Buck - made me smile. It's one thing to see a bird standing on one leg, but hopping on one? Don't think I've seen that but us landlubbers don't have as many opportunities with the little guys as you folks who live close to the coast I guess. I really enjoy seeing this.

Cute bird very nicely captured in mid hop, Buck. I see a catchlight too. Also, I like how the DOF brackets the bird. :toast:

Neat capture of this unusual action Buck. Love your low angle and the catchlight.
