Decaying Leaf

Walking on a beach at Cushendun, Northern Ireland I saw this leaf lying amid the seaweed at low tide. Seeing the skeletal structure of the leaf was pretty cool. Any critiques or comments would be greatly appreciated. Please view larger image for better detail.

The detail of the leaf is terrific, Scott. While it's nice to see the environment in which it lies, the bg elements are either soft or blurry (dunno which, maybe both?) and to me it is bothersome. The b/w conversion is good for this image and you have a fine eye to spot the leaf amid all the details of an ocean beach.

Great find Scott. Well seen and processed. The skeletal leave is the main focal point, however, it doesn't quite pop enough for my taste. I might try to get a tighter crop and then take the bg darker either with a blend of two images or a vignette and brighten the leaf a tad to get it to pop.

Scott,

I'm just going to reiterate what Catherine and Bob have already suggested. Very well seen.

Scott, I love the leaf you found. Great job separating it from the bg so as to emphasize it's skeletal structure. And since I'm on a b/w kick myself right now I really appreciate seeing this in b/w.

That leaf is a great find. I like this shot as is, but I think it would be stronger with a more solid, contrasting BG. I'm not a strict " found shot" ideologist, so I would probably have moved it. :wavey:

A great eye and capture Scott. Being neww at this, I wouldn't have a clue how to do it, but, the leaf almost gets lost in the background. Well seen and captured though.

Scott:
Great fine. Love the skeletal structure which is nice an sharp except for the tip. Would have been nice to see this sharp all along the leaf. Nevertheless an interesting image and the B&W conversion is good.

Scott,
I've never seen a leaf like that. Good eye! Photography makes one look into the world more than we used to.
I agree with the concept mentioned that darkening the background and making the skeletal remains "pop" with lighter, whiter color could be constructive.
Wow, frame it !!

Nice choice for B&W. I love the details in the leaf skeleton and the DOF is just right.
