Living in Banff normally I dont shoot elk but this opportunity arised and these 3 bull elk were wrestling around near my house so I got out decided to photograph them and I thought it turned out rather nice.

Nice rim light and I like the locked antlers but I think the elk in the BG distracts from the two sparring elk. IMO it would be a better picture with just the two elk in the FG.

Simon, You can tell that they are not very serious, but good capture! I like the fact that you got their eyes so well and the colors are great in the bg.

Hi Simon,
I live nearby - just over a range of mtns (to the west in the Columbia Valley) - and tend to feel the same way about the local elk! The elk in the foreground are nicely lit (but talk about contrasty lighting!!), but I tend to agree with Robert that the elk in the background does distract from the two combatants. If you're into making selective adjustments to your images you might want try backing off on the sharpening of the grass along the bottom of the frame - it looks quite oversharpened on my monitor.
