I've heard that an albino (or partial albino, "albinoid", not sure of the proper term) is in our area, but this is a new one from what I'm told. "Spotted" it the last two days. I finally got a couple of OK shots today using a friend's Rebel XTi and 300mm Tamron lens. These two, apparently mother and fawn, posed side-by-side for me for a few minutes.

In low light early today, ISO-400, 1/60th second, f-6.3 at 300mm--probably some motion shake with the shutter speed and me walking toward them. :frown: Thanks for looking and any C&C. Soft, yes. Frustrating.

Interesting shot Bill. There is a term for this type of coloring, but I don't remember what it is. I have seen several shots of deer like this in the last couple years, or it could be the same ones over and over. Thanks for sharing.

Neat looking deer. I think the term is "piebald" although I'm too lazy at the moment to look it up.

Thank you, yes "piebald" is the term--I read it and forgot it! Looks much softer on here than on my monitor, sheesh. I have a couple more to post, with some different poses. ;)

Hi Bill,

Good documentation of this very unusual specimen. Soft? Yes...but the documentation is there and my guess is you weren't planning on shooting a wall-hanger here anyway! You got the shot...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Very interesting subject. I have never seen a deer like this. I assume you were handholding for this shot and if you were that's not too bad of a result at that shutter speed. A monpod or tripod would have been a considerable help.

Thank you Brad and Robert. Yes, the PA Game Commission informed me they are very unusual. And yes Robert, it was handheld as I saw them while driving down the road and shot from the vehicle, then walking toward them before they ran.
