Nothing too exciting here, just a black-crowned night heron flying by in late evening light.

Superb flight shot - I think the wings are a touch oversharpened

Very nice! Going by the amount of gray on the face and chest I"m guessing this is not yet an adult bird.

Nice sharp BIF capture, Ron. I don't see artifacts from over-sharpening. However, despite there being fine detail, especially in the closest wing, the bird does have a very smooth, solid look. Perhaps it's a smooth, solid bird!! That red eye is quite captivating!

Luke, not sure how the wings could be oversharp and not the rest of the bird that was within the DOF. Most likely it is noise from the high ISO causing the oversharp look. I sharpened the 1200px image 10% at a radius of 0.8 in Smart Sharpen as it was tack in-camera. At 100% magnification those settings gave me what I thought was the best detail and most natural look. Now what I think looks natural may not be what most people think looks natural. Actually, most of the time it probably is not .
Rich, agreed, this looks like a bird going into its second winter. Should be adult plumage this coming spring.

Steve, thanks for the comment. Yes, I think BCNH are rather smooth looking. I did not use any NR on this image, and I never use NR on the bird, so the detail in the bird is as shot.

Nice image. The red eye really pops and I like the bit of green on the mandible and lores.

Good inflight, Ron. The saving factor for these plain liiking birds are the red eyes. Like the detail.

One of the best flight shots I've seen of the species Ron. I'm drawn to the sharpness of the feet almost as much as I am to the head. I really like the position of the left wing and the nice look at the eye. The light is wonderful. Excellent.

Ron,
This is a great flight shot of this not quite mature black-crowned night heron. The colors look very natural, sharpness and details are lovely. The feathers of BCNH's are very smooth. Nice views of the red eye and the trailing feet.
A fine image as posted, I'd be proud to have this in my files
