Sweet Merced

First off, thank you for the responses to my last photo.

Later on the same day, we found ourselves back on the Merced. The sun was setting and rather than trying to chase after that light and deal with the throngs of photographers at the typical places, we went after color under the hopes of getting some color reflecting off the thin clouds that hung over the valley. The hunch paid off and during the 30 minutes or so of the "sunset" we had this incredible sweet warm glow filtering into the canyon and lighting up everything in the most delicious of ways. This was one from that time, taken digitally and cropped to 4x5.

I photographed the same scene on 4x5 and the films went out for processing today. Looking forward to those films. Its quiet a task photographing with both a digital and 4x5. The digital makes it easy to nail the exposure and get a quick visual and great for sharing in the forums while the memory is fresh. The 4x5 is the print maker with all the intricate detail. I'll share the 4x5s when they come back.

Comments and feedback on this one much appreciated.

P.S. if you did not see, I have been posting some abstract reflections from the Merced in the Photo Art Gallery. See here

These Meced River scenes remind me of the B&Ws of Ansel Adams only in color. Some great shots Youssef and I'm looking forward to seeing the 4x5s. The abstracts are pretty special too. Nice work.

Nicely seen and executed. Good shutter speed for the water and appealing light.

Very nice, quality of light is exceptional. I think I like this better than the horizontal you posted last time, although it ain't too shabby either

What makes this work very well for me is the dark background which really makes the trees in the middle ground stand out and adds depth to the scene. If I was to pick any nit at all, it would be on Mother Nature for putting that fallen trunk right in the scene you wanted to photograph.

Literally dripping with color! Beautiful comp and the deep blacks set off the foliage.

Tremendous light and color Youssef. At first, the two trees equally spaced left and right threw me, seemed a bit static, but now I see how these nicely frame the lit leaves exquisitely. Look forward to your posting the 4x5 image.

Calm and beautiful, I like the two tree pillars that give, at least to me, a sense of quiet (and the two symmatrical smaller trunks in the background)...

These shots that are perpendicular to the river are much harder to pull of then those at an angle or parallel, but this works very well. The trunks and rocks anchor the image nicely.
