Metlako Falls Classic

by Scott Smorra

The classic view of Metlako Falls in the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. I was hoping to catch a little more color in the trees here, but the majority of the leaves have already dropped off in this area. The fog was amazing and every 15 seconds the look and feel of the scene changed.

Nikon D80, 50mm Nikkor 1.8, polarizer
2 exposure blend for dynamic range. 1 and 2 secs at f/11, ISO 100

All C&C are appreciated. Please view large.

Great atmosphere. Here's to next year to catch more of the fall color.
As for CC I would consider vignetting the image to darken the corners. It'll add a little extra pop to the falls and take the edge off the brighter LLC, ULC and URC.

Really nice Scott. Great framing of the falls and I like how the fog above accentuates the two trees. Well done.

Very well done, Scott. The branches on the left and the two main trees give a lot of character to the scene. Processing is spot on.

You picked the right 15 second interval to snap the shutter!

Classic scene but with some great atmosphere thrown in. Looks incredibly lush, especially considering the leaves have all fallen. The fog and your processing puts this over the top. Well done :toast:

Excellent, Scott. The low cloud is a nice element that works very effectively as a counter to the falls, not to mention bringing out those far trees. Beautiful.

Thanks to everyone for all of the comments. I'm glad everyone seems to like the fog in the background. I really tried to time the fog so that it was behind the two tall trees in the upper center. This helped to isolate those two trees and create some depth in the photo. Thanks again.

I was wondering what the leaves were like up there. Lovely take on this classic, and I love how the fog really makes those trees stand strong.

Familiar, and similar to what I've seen from here. But also as nice as any I've see as well!
