I feel little inclination to take artistic credit for this photograph. Rather, there is a rich blessing in having the ability and opportunity to recognize and respond to the immeasurable beauty in this world. In my latest blog entry, I've paired this image with one in which my thought process played a greater role.

This is beautiful, Kent. The light is gorgeous, and you've captured it nicely. The bergs really add to the composition. No nits from me.

The placement of the rainbow within this composition is absolutely perfect. And I think this image would not be nearly as interesting if it were a full rainbow. The icebergs, clouds and warm light on the hills form a wonderful combination here.

Beautiful image nevertheless. It is an interesting concept you touch here - how much credit can the photographer take for "recording" a beautiful event? You use the term "respond" and that's the clue in my opinion.

Spectacular conditions Kent. The fan of ice in the fg really adds a lot of depth to the scene. My only potential suggestion is to bring out the colors in the reflection a bit more. BTW - is that a waterfall in the background? Awesome work!

Wonderful capture, Kent. I assume that is a glacier in the distant BG area too? The perspective with the rainbow makes for an excellent final touch overall. Gosh, hard for me to fathom, it's been 40 years since I was up there.

Perfect! Not only you got a rainbow, the rainbow is even in the right place to frame the mountain.

Beautiful image Kent. Some great elements add up to making it a stellar photo. Sometimes all we have to do is show up and let nature do it's thing, so I know exactly what you mean. Nice catch!

Marvelous shot. Everything comes together in a great way, the rainbow, the hill catching the light and its reflection, the still water, the bergs and the far glacier. Really a gorgeous moment to witness.

Beautiful image. It's way beyond "snapshot" so I think you deserve some "artistic credit" for what I'm looking at. However, I know what you're saying. How is it possible that this planet keeps coming up with such incredibly beautiful scenes? Thankfully you're good at spotting them and bringing them back.

I'm late in responding to everyone, but thank you all for your feedback, suggestions, and compliments for the photo. I'll admit that this was certainly not a snapshot, and it was only my commitment not to take time on any photos until I found the one that "worked" that allowed me to make this record before the light faded.

Anish - A second composition featured the whole rainbow, but I think you're right; this is more successful.

Michael G. - Yes, there is a pretty large waterfall in view on the opposite side of the lake.

Paul B. - The Mendenhall Glacier in in view in the back left.

Very lovely photograph. Artistic in every sense in my book.

I love how uncontrived the composition/presentation is, which allows me to really get into the scene at my own pace. I love this aspect about your photography.

This rocks, Kent! The mist blowing over the ridge and deep blue clouds in the distance gives the feel of being right on the edges of the weather.

Sometimes everything clicks. You just have to be there at the right time and know enought to capture what you see. Sometimes it takes a bit more work. The amount of work gone into a shot does not necessary correspons with how good it is. But I kinda knwo what you mean. Sometimes it is almost too easy, you feel almost guilty because of the (apparent) little amount of work involved. I am not saying this in a degrading way at all, you have to have an eye for it and you have to know when to be there. But when everything just clicks it can seem too easy. (I'm not sure if I am making any sense at all).
This is a wondeful capture.

Chris - No worries, the goal of my response was not to point out the impossibility of sea mammals at this location. I only wanted to join you in the joke about the rainbow-sunset-icebergs-waterfall-glacier-mountains-unicorns nature of this photograph.
...there might be a mountain goat on one of those distant slopes if you look REALLY close.
