I had a chance to camp in Grand Teton National Park for a couple of nights this October. I was surprised to find a young Cinnamon Phase Black Bear in a tree. I was not aware of this behavior; harvesting Hawthorne berries in the fall. The bear was very agile on the slender branches, and methodically stripped the tree of all the berries it could reach (which was most of them).

I cropped for comp and lightened some shadows on the face. Curves and sharpening, a little saturation.
Thanks for looking

Lon and Roger, I think you are correct on the over sharpening. Here is a version less sharpened. I still have a lot to learn.
I should have mentioned the light was "harsh", and I struggled to tone down the bright highlights on the forehead and the white branches, while trying to bring out details in the dark areas of the face.
I like the red and yellow fall colors, and the Hawthorne berries visible on the tree. I also like the eyes, which Brad points out in an adjacent post, are hard to capture on a bear.
Now it is totally excellent.

The repost works much better with the sharpening reduced.
Great Find!
