Black Falls Cathedral

An overview of the blacks falls where I also shot my last image.

(see: http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vp&pr=157155&CGISESSID=99827e0426465e268205f017a552db30&u=10727)

This waterfall is based in a sort of basalt cathedral, with great rocks and some rare plants too boot. I saw quite a lot of falls when in Iceland, and while nowhere near the biggestor most spectacular this was definitly the most photogenic in my opinion.

Thanks for looking and c&c welcome ofc!

Great photo Jorne :) I really like the texture of the rocks and its shape in comparison to flawing water :)
Only IMHO, I would perhaps crop it from a few curved shaped rocks that start left of the centre of the photo to keep the flow more in the centre of attention yet to leave enough green and curved rocks to add to it.
This is only a personal liking (as with most cropping) but either way this is a great photo.

The falls are gorgeous; i also like the ribbed rocks on the left side and all the lush green as well! I agree with Tom about the falls being a bit too far over to the right side, dont know if it was possible to move more to the right for this shot...

Really nice! The comp is good, and the contrast works very well with the columnar basalt.

Very interesting Reminds me of the PNW, but with more pronounced and sculpted basalt. I like the comp with the off-center wf. Maybe it's just my monitor, but it feels a bit dark.

I really enjoy this Jorne!! Love the speed chosen. My only nit would be the foreground. I'd either show more of it, or eliminate the little of it that is shown. Nice work!

Thanks everyone!

Stan: getting a differten comp was hard (I do have one but it's framed very differently becaus eI had to stand in a stream!

Tony: It doesn't look very dark on my monitor, but I might be off ofc. Anyone else seeing it as too dark?

I like the scene and processing a lot. I agree with the others about the placement of the falls. I think it would look better about a 1/3rd of the way into the frame. Definitely a very cool fall - it reminds me a little of Upper Calf Creek Falls in Utah.

A very strong composition! Fascinating basalt columns and the falls is a great accent. Superb image!

Absolutely love the larger image. Very unique rock wall that imitates the falls vertical drop. Love the shape of the falls and the green vegetation gives the image life. Well done Jorne.

Jorne,
nice image but this location has so much potential. For instance, I would try to include the stream as a leading line to the falls.

I like the extreme(ish) side location of the waterfall. Nice contrast in the rocks on the other side to balance. What a cool place!
