Pete's Lake Sunrise

This is a sunrise picture I made on our 2nd morning in Upper MI during our fall trip. Pete's Lake is in the Hiawatha National Forest south of Munising. I always enjoy going here for the sunrise when in this area. A great place to spend a nice early fall morning. Thanks for looking.

Nicely done. The fog adds a lot of mystery to this...quiet and peaceful scene.

Another very fine capture from you, Nick, I love mist and your image explains the reason why very well. Light is gorgeous and those small logs emerging from the water add a lot of interest to the fg. I think I would clone off that stripe of land as it detracts a bit in my opinion from the delightful dreamy quality of this photograph (see attach).

EDIT: please disregard the colours if for some reason you see them different from your original (as I do). Actually I didn't touch them, I probably only forgot to implement the sRGB profile when saving the file.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Hearing comments and suggestions from photographers you really respect means alot. As always, thanks!
Paolo, yes that looks better to me. I think it has a little nicer balance too. That was part of a submerged log showing. I wasn't sure I could take that out and make it look ok, so left it alone. My PS skills need much improvement  Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick,

Fabulous job at controlling the dynamic range of the image. The soft color palette is extremely nice. Overall, I'd say this is my favorite of all the images you have posted so far on NPN of your recent trip. There's a lot to like here: colors, balance, conditions, scenery, etc. I think Paolo's idea of cloning out the log on the left is a good one, although I don't think it makes or breaks the picture either way. Very solid work here my friend. Just lovely! :toast:

Nice soft light and such a peaceful enery this image evokes. I can see merit in cloning the log on the left but I would still like your image with it in the scene.

What a special sunrise! The mists are just magical. I'm going against the grain and going to say that I actually would like the image more without those logs.. they draw my eyes away from the sunrise.

Wonderfully moody image, I love it! I have no suggestion except for agreeing with the clone suggestion.

This so reminds me of Hayden Valley with the Yellowstone river in Yellowstone National Park. What a lovely shot this is Nick. I can feel the coolness and the humidity hitting my face as I view your image. A place of solitude and reflection. Just beautiful.
