Blue-winged teal

This is an adult female. I like the detail in this shot and the interesting if not appealing BG. I just wish the teal would fly around more. Most are just sitting on the water eating, preening, or sleeping. Hard to get the flight shot I am after having to deal with these lazy bums. I guess I would be lazy too if I just flew 1000+ miles.

A really impressive photo given the speed and agility of these guys.... the only nit is wanting some warmer light on the bird

Yep, I thought the same thing when I was processing this image, no warm light here. As hard as I try I can't always get the shot during the first or last few minutes of the day. I guess I could mess with the WB, but then the image would not be representative of the real life situation.

Nice detail in the blues on the wing. Actually the background colors are a nice compliment to the bird. I wish the bird was a frame or two earlier to give him a feeling of flight into the image instead of passing by. But then, I don't have this image at all...

Nice capture Ron. You have captured the namesake blue in the wings very well. Surprisingly good image quality considering the ISO and the extreme crop. Nicely composed and nice eye contact.

Way better than I can do with any of these buzz bombs.

Very nice!

Very impressive capture of a very high speed bird. Very little noise for the high ISO. My only nit is that it is surprising bland light...

A very sweet flight shot, Ron! Perfect positioning to catch the blue color on the wing; a really nice shot all around!

These guys are small and fast and up here you have a heck of a time even getting close to one. She looks pretty relaxed here though, sort of gliding. Love the understated colors. Your usual excellence. :toast:

Nice work Ron, good sharpness and nice pose you've captured, I would warm it up a tad myself, the notion that it wasn't that way in the first place would be fine apart from the fact that the human brain has a great auto white balance system, so while the camera records its impression of the scene it is likely quite different to how a brain on site would be interpreting things, not to mention that the cameras white balance is affected by the whims of the engineers who setup the camera white balance system in the first place.

Superb Ron - you're almost inspiring me to try a similar approach but I need to find somewhere suitable

Angela, I too would have liked a shot a couple of frames earlier. I actually have several frames before this and after this in a 10-shot sequence. However, the ones where she is coming toward me and right across from me were against very poor BGs and the light direction was not optimal in some. So, I chose this frame. Just FYI.

Very interesting background to compliment the teal, I like that you can still see good detail in the feathers for a flight shot, well done.

Great job of getting this shot Ron. Good detail and a complimentary BG IMO. A bit of noise, but very good for the large crop.

Ron, I wouldn't quite kill to get a flight shot this good of a teal of any species but I'd certainly consider it. You continue to impress. Got a real kick out of your comment too.
