This was taken with me laying on my stomach on the board walk at Anhinga trail in the everglades. I posted it in this forum because the alligator is not the center of the image. He only helps give a sense of place.

Shutter 1/180
Aperture f16
ISO 400

Pretty catch, but I'm a little uneasy with the composition. IMO, this is all about the FG and the gator - the grass in the BG is kind of distracting to me. I think if it were cropped out and the right side tightened up somewhat it might be more effective.

Nice shot, but i kind of agree with Bill. I'd want that gator to be more prominant in the frame. I think it would make a nice pano.

Excellent placement of the alligator within the scene Richard. I could see a crop off the top completely eliminating the background grass. I think it would simplify the image a bit. That's personal though....an exotic and tropical capture.

Nice one, Richard. I agree, the pano crop will work very well with this image, love the reflected sky too.

For "sense of place" use, I would think he would be better placed more into the frame. I like the reflective water with blue and clouds and the receding patterns of the lily pads. Colors are pleasingly rich.
