Leafscape-end of autumn

It's been a while since I've posted anything in Flora - you guys are intimidating! I love the cooler temps of October, but still have a wait for autumn here in the deep south. This is one from a couple of years ago, shot after these leaves had lost their color. I love to shoot leafscapes, but don't have the opportunity very often. Please view LARGER version for greater detail.

D2X w/ 28-70 @ 28mm
.6 sec @ f/10 - MLU and mc-30 remote release
100 ISO
Fill flash
No filters
Tripod
Capture One 4, CS4, TK's Luminosity & Saturation Masks, Marc's web sharpening, slight Orton effect

Critiques, suggestions, and comments always welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

I'm really liking the square crop on this image. It feels very balanced to me. I also like how you captured the beauty of the end of fall!

Given this Bill, I can't imagine there's anything here that should intimidate. For my tastes this is pure magic. It may get as good but it doesn't get any better. Love the subtle Orton effect. Exceptional image.

Bill: Welcome back old friend and thanks for a great mini florascape. This is really well seen, captured and processed. I'm a little surprised there was no sheen on the leaves. I was sure you had used a polarizer. The pine cone is an inspired anchor and makes the shot extraordinary and not merely excellent. 2 thumbs up. >=))>

Bill, fantastic color and detail. Love the sheen from the orton effect. Only suggestion I will make is to clone out some of the spots (not all) on that one leaf in the upper right corner. So many of them are a distraction IMO.

Cheers,

Carol

Shots like this are some of my favorites with a mix of seasonal "subjects". This will seem like an odd suggestion but I kinda wish the pinecone was positioned at a slight angle pointing into the center of the composition... Nice work!

Are these leaves from a tulip tree?

I think one of the most difficult decisions is how large should the leaf sizes be within the frame. This is perfect....showing eye-pleasing detail and balance. Nice harmony in yellows and browns.

Bill, I was just going through the WP's and had to comment. The forms, shapes and color of these leaves all come together for a spectacular image. Very sharp with nice light. Congrats on the WP! Very deserving.
