Bookcliffs

I have been fascinated by these bookcliffs by Grand Junction, Colorado for years. I finally had the opportunity to photograph them one evening last weekend. I recently found out (thanks, Bret) that these are the longest continuous escarpment in the world. They run for over 20 miles.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thank you for looking,

Morris

Pretty fascinating landscape Morris. You know if you crop the sky out this will be over the top fantastic.
The warm soft light really enhances the scene. A cool place and glad you found it.
Great job Bud :toast:
Thanks for sharing

I like the color contrasts and the spacing of the horizontal lines here...of course the soft lighting paints the desert nicely. Well seen Morris!!

I don't know how much the processing had a part to play in it, but this has the appearance of a pastel drawing I really like it.

+1 to what Anthony said. This is fantastic, but it'd be even better without the sky IMO. And if you do that, then I might play with a slightly bluer white balance, which would bring out the subtle and warm light even more (because the shadows would be a little bluer). The soft light is just perfect!

This is awesome, Morris. The subtle, warm light accentuating the landforms, the superb colors, all of it just incredible. The suggestions of cropping the sky sound good to me to really focus on the phenomenal pattern and textures. Either cropping the sky or perhaps darkening the sky; something so it doesn't compete with the beauty of the rest of the image. Fantastic image.

I love these too every time I drive past. You had some excellent light. Doesn't look like it's full sun as the shadows are quite soft.

I love it. It is both dramatic and serene at the same time. At first glance it looks really calm, but when you start to really look at it you can see all the details and that little "mountain" in the middle. Really strong picture IMHO. Great work.

Simply marvelous light on this cliff side! I am on the fence if I would remove the sky or not. Either way works for me. It would provide slightly more focus on the wonderful light.

Stunning Morris, great light and amazing details. In my opinion the sky only needs to be darkened a bit. I wouldn't crop it because I think it gives a great sense of scale and place.

Beautiful soft light and great plasticity. I love it too. Maybe even more without the sky. Nice work, Morris.

Beautiful image Morris. I do agree that cropping would make it even better. Focusing the viewer on the better parts of the image. I love the warm colors and triangular shapes with this one. Well seen and composed!
