BlackCapped Chickadee
by Dennis Plank
Taken in the same session as my previous post of the Chestnut Backed Chickadee. I liked the pose here but which the head tilt had been enough to get a little better catchlight. The crop gave me some problems in this one, but this seemed like the best compromise. I took a bit off the bottom and the top and a fair amount off the right.
7D, 500mm F4 + 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f5.6 @ 1/125, iso 500, Av mode with -1/3 compensation. Taken at 6:05 pm on October 2nd. Normal processing in CS4, cropped to 69% of the original image.
I always appreciate your comments and criticisms.

Very nice pose and good feather details. The smooth background works well in this shot.
I wish that OOF branch were not there but it is what it is and not a deal killer.

I love the perky pose of the chickadee and that feather sticking out with the water droplet truly adds a lot of charm and whimsy. Nicely done.
