Pick Up Sticks

Lame title I know but the off kilter arrangement of trunks sort of reminded me of pick up sticks. This is from the White Mtns in New Hampshire a couple of weeks ago as the color was starting to progress. I was drawn to the contrast between the lighter trunks and the darker forest background as well as the subtle splashes of color. Love to hear your thoughts.

I can definitely see why this caught your eye. The contrast between those trunks and splashes of color in the fg works very nice with that darker bg. I might consider burning down the far trunk on the left a little, but other than that this more than works for me. Nice intimate forest scene!

I think it works well Kurt. You might try to bring out the pinks in the maple trees a litte bit more.Very nice spacing and well composed...

I like the comp, light, and subtle colors. You brought order to this scene in a spledid way.

I like the comp and the way the groups of leaves appear to be floating like clouds of color in the forest.

Just because it has been done before, people might mistakenly assume that it's not much of a challenge to pull an image like this off. I would heartily disagree. You're right that the arrangement of trunks is pretty remarkable. The one at the left third in the image is individually unique and adds a really neat element to the photo in my opinion.

Kurt: I like the uneven alignment of the trunks and the splash of color throughout the scene. Having the two trunks leaning the same way on the edges makes for a nice natural frame. Good eye!

Hi Kurt,
It's a very nice excecution of a classical forest image. Nice spacing and contrast of colors.

What an exquisite composition to arrange the trunks and colors just so. Things seems a teeny bit soft but like you alluded to could be web compression.
