Brown Pelican

I haven't even gotten the camera out of the closet for a couple of months. The last post I had was in the June time frame, and was of Brown Pelicans, in Virginia. This weekend I got the camera out, and headed for the Washington State coast. I found excellent October weather, seriously 67 degrees, and sunny. I also found one of my favorite species, the Brown Pelican! The light in the afternoon was just awesome!

I like the lighting and the hint of clouds in the background. Nice exposure too - no nits.

Nice flight pose and eye contact Michael, larger version looks very good, thanks for providing it. In the larger version I detect a thin, light halo under the bill and pelican's body, I would work on eliminating that. Compositionally the pelican seems centered top to bottom, I wouldn't want to remove any of the clouds in the background at the top, so I would most likely crop some off of the bottom to decenter the bird.

I love to photograph pelicans too, they are very interesting birds.

Excellent flight shot, Mike. I really like your lighting in this image. The wisps of cloud in the bg add some nice texture. :toast:

Looks very nice on the large version, with some nice detail, even in the eye. The composition works well for me, and the clouds do add some nice texture.
