Red-breasted Nuthatch

I haven't been able to get out and do much shooting with a newborn at home and other resposibilities lately so I've set up some perches and feeders in my back yard and I photograph from my living room out the open window when I have a chance. I captured this nuthatch yesterday. This is cropped to about 80% of FF, a little nr run on the bg.

MkIII 500F4 1.4x 1/200 F8, iso 640, evaluative metering -0.3, Gitzo tripod

Hey Nate I feel your pain buddy. We have a 3 week old (our third) keeping us up all night. Not in the mood much to get out early in the morning.
This looks pretty sharp, BG is great, and I like the mossy perch. I might copy you and do the same thing in my back yard!

A classic Nuthatch capture, Nate! Love it! Nothing like shooting whilst lounging at an armchair sipping latte perhaps!

Beautiful image, Nate. I like the mossy perch, the pose and the perfect background. If I shoot from my living room I take a nice pic of the latest model of SUV. :wavey:

I like the alert pose, eye contact, perch and BG. Maybe a slightly warmer color temperature?

Houses do make great blinds, Nate. I keep wanting to turn my screened porch into one. Beautiful pose and typical Northwest perch. :toast:

A classic Nuthatch pose. The perch, the background, and the spot-on technicals don't hurt either. A lovely photograph. And congratulations on the new addition to your family.

Great image. Moss on the perch does it for me. Nice detail in the bird on the larger view.

What a great pech Nate. You've set this up nicely for a beautiful background. Well done Nate. I love the idea. I only get to go shoot about 2-3 times per month so something like this makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks for sharing.

Classic nuthatch shot - textbook really. Love that moss and the "swept" feathers over the wing.

The pose and nice perch make the shot for me Nate. Your comp couldn't be better and I really like the upward sweep of the red feathers over the wing.

Super shot, Nate. The BG colour is fantastic and you have great isolation of the Nutty.

Sweet shot Nate,
i really like the tension of the animal , which comes from the position of the body and legs apart . The curvature of the feathers add dynamism .
Best wishes for the new arrival.
