This is a shot from one of the Stanley Park gardens in Vancouver, BC. The flowers there were terrific, and I had a new 70-300 lens that I got to practice some more isolation type stuff with than I've been able to do with my other lens. I like the way this particular one reached out of the larger (unseen) patch below. I don't know the type, so I'd appreciate some info if anyone knows.

Thanks for looking!

Olympus E-520
Zuiko 70-300 @ 120mm
f/4.3
1/200s
ISO 100
Hand-held, manual focus (rocking back and forth slowly and watching the focus change helps!)
PS CS4 for RAW conversion, web prep

David: Looks like a rudbeckia variant of some sort. This is nicely seen and composed. I'm not sure about the OOF BG flower on the right edge. Very well done.>=))>

I agree with Bill on the ID David.

Beautiful image. Nice light, good subject/ground separation and a fine looking flower. The partials blooms on the right bother me a little too but short of cloning them out, I don't know what you can do about them. Good looking as posted for my tastes.

Great bloom and the bg for most part complements.. But I agree about the oof BG flower being a distraction. Cool shot in very good focus

Beautiful flower, I like your choice of a shallow DOF to help create that separation.

Beautiful, crisp rendering of the subject, David. I like the slightly from the top angle and the sense of space around the flower. The blue flower could be seen as a distraction but, personally, I don't mind it at all - it's part of the scene.

I like really like the placement of the flower versus the background. Very nice image showing the flower in its environment.

I think this is a Rudbeckia. I like the sharpness of the flower, but the bg is a bit too busy for me.
