Meadow Pipit

1D mk iv, 600mm f4, 1/2,500s, f4, iso 800. Cloned out a small twig and softened edges of highlights in background.

The saturated colours are due to the first sunshine of the morning as it rose over the hills. The perch is part of a burnt out bush. I shot through some bushes and grass deliberately to create this effect, but I have struggled a bit with composition. What do you think?

Really like the colors and patterns in the background Ian and having the bird small in the frame works just fine for me in a shot like this. It does seem like there's some OOF vegetation in front of the birds feet that catches my eye. I'm undecided about the composition. I might prefer to have the pipit looking to our left but I think this works too.

Greetings, Ian...I like the contrast of the bird against the background but I think the pipet needs to be considerably bigger. In my view, this is an image of the background that just happens to have a bird in it.

Hmmm, have to agree with Tom on the composition. If this is full frame I would crop away the left half and have him looking into the scene. The oof area in front of his feet is still problematic though. The morning light is attractive however.

Lovely colors in this one. But the bird looks so tiny, he just seems to be an afterthought. I really think it needs to be cropped down, but I do love your BG.
