Montauk Point Lighthouse at the absolute end of Long Island, next stop would be Europe...Nikon D80..18-50 lens 3 second exposure. I added the lightstar but probably shouldn't have

A really nice image of the Montauk Lighthouse - I think low tide serves you very well here as it adds a nice element leading up to the lighthouse. This is not an easy site to capture because of the excessive man-made structures (the rip rap and that giant concrete column at the base) but the low lighitng on those areas lets the eye skip over them.

The star is a bit cheesy in my opinion (that is to say it looks wholly fake where everything else looks real). Maybe tone it down a bit?

I guess you answered my question, Luke. I was thinking, "was the star hokey or not"?

The rock makes a nice counterpoint to the lighthouse. The light-burst is awfully gaudy in an otherwise understated but beautiful scene.

Beautiful shot, Donald. You did pretty well with capturing the essence of this scene. However, I'd prefer this without the light star.
