Rising Star

This Rising Star soars over it's cousins and sweats dew drops along the way. I'm guessing that here in the Pacific Northwest, we have another couple of weeks to enjoy the Dahlia's before our first freeze puts an end to the show.

I like this a lot Craig. For my tastes this is about as effective use of dof as I recall seeing in an image. Beautiful complementary colors and warm light as well. My guess is that some may find the bg a little distracting but in this case I think the flares and bright spots work as a balance to the brighter areas on the fg flower. The droplet just adds more interest. I think this my favorite of your dahlia series, so far. Striking image for my tastes and the dof decision should be in a textbook as an example.

Craig, I love the colors and the detail on the bud. I almost think the bud alone might make an incredible image.

Sorry but can't get to the larger image this morning. Something weird is going on???

The more I look at the image, I find my eyes bouncing back and forth. The sharp details are in the bud; but the flower as a secondary and OOF object is so big, it demands my attention too.

Hope my scattered comments make sense.

Cheers,

Carol

I love your choice of DOF and the water drop is a nice plus.

The dof makes no mistake about your subject. Excellent color, light, and clarity, and the drop is a great addition. :toast:

Hi craig :wavey: Agree with Carol about the secondary subject being too large. and grabbing the attention. The Bud and the B.G.. are superbly done. and need a different composition.

I love the bud and the water droplet. I tend to agree that the OOF FG is somewhat competing because of size and how bright it is.

Very nice complimentary bloom at the bottom of the shot. I like the looks of the 'shooter'. Cool, thoughtful comp.

Craig:
I really like this composition. Effective use of essentially two bright primary colors of green and red with a touch of yellow thrown in. Like your choice of DOF - very effective.
