One last mantis....

Well, maybe not the last, but perhaps my favorite to date this year.
I found this female in the grasses near the side of a road.

Sigma 180mm handheld on a 5D Mk2. 1/160s f8.

It was overcast and the green background was a bit much, but it was either that or have the dark asphalt if I shot from the other side, and she didn't stay there long enough for me to take both.

Cheers,

What a creative presentation, Robert.

Neat capture, good DOF, and looks like good detail.

Cheers,

I'd put this down as an ultimate mantis shot. The BG does compete unfortunately with the subject - but from an artistic POV this is special

Good Capture. The repetition of the curving line of the plant and the mantis is very powerful. I like the background just fine. In fact the green on green creates another nice repetition.

I always prefer natural backgrounds, and this one looks fine. Fantastic composition with the graceful grass head!

Hey Robert, very cool find, great job hand holding with that big lens, would have liked a little more sharpness on the head. Nice BG.

To all our macro contribitors, our image comments have been up lately, and I would like to thank all those who have been taking the time to comment on images. Thanks and keep em coming

Very cool comp, Robert. Love the perch. Well seen. Perhaps a bump in brightness is all I would suggest.
