Kingfisher is ( obviously ) one of my favourite subject, but from many years I wasn'taking shots of this colourful bird.
Recently I have found two different ponds, not far from my home, with a favourable environment for kingfisher. I have spent there long waitings and some rewarding moments.
Canon 40D, Sigma 50-500 at 500, ISO 320 , F8 , 1/800 , tripod.
PS CS2 , moderate crop, routine sharpening.
C and C welcome.
Larger version provided.

It's showing a bit dark on my monitor, otherwise love the composition and prey.

Great catch for you both! Great composition. I agree it's a bit dark - might be worth trying to give it a boost though no doubt the whites might be difficult to control.

Giorgio,
Congratulations on working hard for this reward. I love the tiny little crayfish. Background looks a little dark on my work monitor but you may blow the whites then. Nice capture. Hope you're rewarded with more kingfisher images Giorgio.

Looks like it was worth the wait. Looking forward to other images from your ponds.

Very nice Giorgio; I might brighten it a bit if it were mine, but that's a minor nit.

Great capture, Giorgio. Love the comp and the pose of the kingfisher with the prey in the beak. I'm still waiting for a good shot of these beautiful birds. Congrats!! :toast: :wavey:

Hi Giorgio,
Good clean shot of this species. Definetly a plus for the prey in it's bill. The second image is an improvement but in my opinion lacks a good punchy look. It's a little flat. I'm thinking somewhere in the middle of the two images might work the best.

Giorgio,

I like the comp, the almost slate blue background, pose and especially the prey in the bill. I might lighten the image overall some as it seems a bit on the dark side. Nice work finding the KFs close to home.

PS. Oops I hadn't seen the repost when I first made this comment, I do like it better.

I like this a lot, but would bump up the overall exposure of this image as it is a bit too dark IMO. Cool shot overall.

Very nice shot of this great subject. The prey adds a lot.

Maybe something between the two versions would be perfect.

Congrats
