Jay,

I believe this is our first post to ES&S and so I would like to welcome you both to the gallery and NPN!

Now with the presence of the people in the image - at least they look like photogs or tourists, this is more appropriate for the Man & Nature Gallery. But we're pretty easy going here and I notice you also have a fine image posted in Man & Nature today so we'll let this one slide.... but keep in mind for future posts.

To the image... I like the conditions and lighting you've found and captured here. The exposure, colors and contrast are right on. The composition is a little unbalanced in my view. I like the idea of including the old weathered wood as a foreground element, but there's a little piece in the lower left corner that is cut off as well as the lower right is a bit empty.

I love the sky and the combo of dunes and mountains, so I guess it's the foreground that is making this unbalanced to me. Perhaps a nice pano crop eliminating the wood up front would result in a better composition.

Let's see if what other's may have to say.

Welcome aboard. We look forward to your images and also for your participation! don't be shy, jump right in and make some comments of your own too.

Lon

I'd be happy to comment on the photo, but Lon has pretty much already said it all. There are some neat aspects combined with some obvious areas of room for improvement. I wonder if there's also a CCW tilt?
