Another Californian Poppy, this time the orange version. I really enjoyed spending a bit of time working with these flowers. They were just so varied in their state from completely open to completely closed and everything in between.

Nikon D700 50mm 32mm extension tubes (I think)
f1.8 1/400 ISO100
handheld.
PP: levels TK luminosity masks, just the basics.

Andrew, I really like the POV and DOF chosen. Really works well here. A square crop might also be interesting. Very well seen and composed.

Very dreamy effect at f/1.8, Andrew. I like the angle from which you shot this. I do think it would be even more effective if there were less space on the left and more on the right. I make the comment since the CA Poppy is leaning to the right and it drags our eyes right out of the frame on the right side.

Cheers,

Carol

Beautiful image Andrew, Excellent detail in the center but a nice softness to the rest of the image. I'd probably also be inclined to crop from the viewer's left - maybe to a 5:4. Very fine work as posted for my tastes.

Thanks for the feedback guys, heres a few edits. Both with 5:4 crop, and one with rotation. I'm now quite torn between all 3. I quite like the original but as soon as its rotated then it needs the crop desperately and looks quite good. Having said that I quite like the point of difference the initial image has, with a little more space and a different orientation (incidentally this is the orientation it was shot).

Appreciate the feedback everyone, thanks.

Rotation, which I think helps address Carols point about leading out of frame.

Like this a lot, Andrew !! Beautiful effect from the dof and splendid colouring and composition - love how the stem emerges from the green bg.

I love the look to the center of the flower Andrew. Also, the lines in the petals are great. Very pretty!

Wow. Just noticed the reposts. I think the second repost works best for me.

In the future, you might be able to increase the number of views of the reposts by editing the title to say '+ repost' or something like that.

Very nicely done . . . I really like it. Hard to choose among the different versions. I'm probably leaning toward No. 2. It's a strong image no matter which you choose.

Nice colours and POF/DOF here... My preference is in the reverse order of the posts (last one being the best). :toast: :toast:

Andrew: This is excellent in all three iterations but I do prefer the reposts and the rotated version especially. Very well done.>=))>

Choose a frame and fit it to the frame. Any way you place the flower it works! Very nice soft take on the poppy. :toast:

Lovely photo Andrew. I like the sharp center with the rest of the image being soft and dreamlike. Great colors as well.
