Lost in Translation

I know this is nothing new, but this is my first attempt at a camera technique I've always wanted to try. I was looking for dead trees with no bark and trees which still had their branches in place. I thought the branches would break up the photo and provide a little more interest.

I'm curious to know your thoughts on this image and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I've seen this technique before also and have wanted to give it try but haven't found a suitable subject. Your image is as successful as any I've seen. Well done.

I think this worked quite nice, Dean. The colors are really nice and it was a good subject for this. I too think it works about as good as any I have seen. I especially like the right 2/3rds of this. Jim Brandenburg has one of these that is very nice. Nice work.

I've seen lots of these that are all about vertical lines. I think the little branches add a nice little bit of chaos and a whole lot of interest... and set this image apart from the other ones I've seen.

While I'm not a fan of this technique, I'm very intrigued by the beautiful colors & light here.

Dean - Looks great to me. Like dancing trees. I might try darkening the image a bit, adding a touch of contrast to the entire image. It might make the trees pop a bit more, add a more depth to th image. Nice impressionistic work.

I'll just ditto Buck. Excellent use of this technique and the use of the dead trees and branches is brilliant.

Beautiful, impressionistic image Dean. Love the contrasts in color, the lines of the tree trunks, and design of the branches and the grasses. You succeeded exceedingly well with your first attempt. This is really, really nice.

For me these do fall into the photo art category, but with that said this is a very nice one. Well done!

John, I agree it could fit in that category, but just to let you know and others know, the image wasn't digitally manipulated in any way. I did use levels, sat., and sharpening which I do on all my images. This was simply moving the camera during exposure.

Thanks for your comment and the comments of others. Much appreciated!

I like these, and always experiment with them each time i'm out shooting. I think you did a good job with this one. Nice strong verticals are the subject of choice, but as you said the smaller branches help to break things up. Good colors too. I usually push the color a bit further with these abstract/impressionistic shots.

Fascinating! I love all the little twigs twirled through the scene, and brilliant green grasses. Makes me want to try an idea I've had in mind even more now... fall is coming!

This certainly works for me, Dean. The trees are recognizable as such,
and I like your dream-like portrayal of them. I hope that you continue to
experiment and share your results with us.

Never tried this panning technique myself, but seeing images like this makes me want to try someday. A very pleasing image top to bottom!

I really like this. Is there sun shining in from the back as this light adds nice variation to the tonal palette. Really good image . . . as usual.

Tony, your right, just a bit of sunlight was reaching the grasses on the right side of the image. I thought it would work better with some different tones so I included it.

I wasn't sure how this image was going to be received so thank you all for your encouraging comments.

Dean, I have to say that I have come back to this several times. The thumbnail seems to really draw my attention. Seems as thought the more I have looked at this the more I like it, even though I Iiked it right off too. I bet this would make a fantastic large print, like 30 x 45. Would be interesting to see it like that. I don't usually comment twice on the same picture, but just wanted to let you know what I was feeling. Really nice work.
