I'm somewhat fortunate to be able to travel to Costa Rica on a fairly frequent basis and I get very excited with the expectation of seeing the country with a guide whom I've come to enjoy traveling with, this time was no different. What was different this trip down was the heat, and although one expects that in CR at this time of the year, this day was one even the locals remarked upon. After a mornings' trek through the La Selva Biological Station in the NW Caribbean Region we stopped for lunch and hoped the heat would dissipate a bit before heading out again. We headed out along the Sarapiqui River where we came upon this Little Blue Heron on the banks of the river. Shot late afternoon just as the Heron had snagged his prey out of the river. Although I would have liked a softer light and a lower ISO, I was pleased with the outcome.
Thanks for looking- your comments always appreciated.

4 commentsLove the prey in the little blue heron's bill, very neat behavior! I might tone the OOF rocks in the foreground and the water in the background down a bit. The open bill and view of the eye is great. I may have lowered my ISO and played with my EV compensation some to get the best exposure on the bird in that light.
