Sunflower Glory

What's not to love about sunflowers? While out driving today I came upon a huge field of sunflowers, but it was windy and rain was threatening. I still set up my camera and tripod and just started clicking away. I'm always intrigued of the parts of a flower so I decided to take some shots from the back, rather than straight on. I think this image shows some good detail of the stem and petals and probably one that I may try to draw or paint. Just a different view of a glorious sunflower.

My camera is a Nikon D70 with tripod. As always, comments and critiques are appreciated.

Nicely composed with good detail, Barbara. I was a little surprised to see so many gawkers yet no comments. I think this is a very nice shot. :wavey:

Interesting point of view. Nice details and color. Seems a bit dark but not too much. Love the little fuzz on the stem. Nicely done.

Thanks everyone for your comments/critiques. It was a challenge to take this image because of the wind, but I just kept shooting. I am really trying to master this macro/close-up technique. I love seeing all the details, too. Thanks again.

Barbara,
I like the perspective, the color, the overall form, and the detail. Nice crop too.

The major improvement I would make is to clean up some of the defects in the plant. I don't mind the dark tips too much, but I'd be tempted to clone or heal the two black spots in the green leaf areas. The one right in the middle of the frame becomes all I see after a few looks. And the one above that to the left should be an easy fix.

Overall an engaging shot with a lot of applications.

Sorry I'm so late commenting on this... somehow I missed it first time around. I really like the angle you chose and the detail is outrageous! I might clean up some imperfections before printing, but if you paint it you have to make it pristine. Love it!

Patricia, thanks for taking the time to view this. I, too, love the angle and the detail. I'm working on a colored pencil drawing from this image and so far I'm very happy with it. Thanks for your comments.
